Once in a blue moon there is movie made that actually can change your perspective on many things. In a way, inspiring you to do better, when at the same time leaving you in awe. Naturally any movie that involves music (basically anything that involves music) I am attracted to. Music engages my senses, and allows for my creativity to expand.
When watching the movie Whiplash, I was immediately sucked in. Not only do the characters form this amazing bond between a teacher and pupil perspective, but the amount of passion tied within the story line almost inspires you to do better. Whiplash is about main character Andrew, who is a student that craves to be one of the greatest drummers alive. Forever practicing and striving to be the best always, teacher Terrance Fletcher roams the halls looking for his own great and magnificent pupil.
Instantly the two form a bond to push each other past major boundaries, but with this force comes a great outcome. What is so inspiring is to see how passionate one person can be about something. This is what I want to focus on, the fact that passion and drive can create the best work of art around. While watching this movie and seeing no matter what life was thrown at this young artist, he pushed himself to make an impression. I relate so much to this character, and it allows other inspiring artists to have a mentor. Throughout my discovery of how competitive any form of art is, I find that the fight to the top-normally is ugly as hell. It takes a certain person to push for this, but after watching I realized that I am also this type of person.
Although Andrew takes it to certain extremes, it allows you to fall in love with how amazing a love for something can increase to something amazing. With this simple discovery I think that anyone who wants something can simply relate. Why do you ask? I think it is the simplicity of falling in love with a hobby, and at the same time realizing that your life and well being depends on it. As an inspiring journalist wanting to make my impression on the journalism world, I can see myself fighting to the death to make it to the top.
With my closing remarks I would like to say-never give up on something, in my previous blog post I stated that I have been given a major opportunity. Now it is just my time to fight like Andrew in whiplash to be one of the greats.
After watching the trailer, you can see the passion for music and becoming the best throughout the film. It is exquisite and thrilling. Something every inspiring person with passion for something in their veins to experience.
